Change your boring summer routine and make the most of your summer, join the Union City Leisure Services Leaders In Training  (L.I.T.) Program.  In the L.I.T. Program you will gain valuable experience and have fun adventures that will stay with you forever. Learn useful leadership skills, get hands on training with young children, and meet interesting new people. Parent Project Announces Spring Class

Do you know of a parent who feels frustrated with their child or whose kid is having problems at school and/or at home? Union City Youth and Family Service's Parent Project is a program specifically designed for parents of strong-willed or out-of-control kids. Registrations now being accepted for the spring 2012 session which starts February 28th. Space is limited.

The Annual Union City Photography Contest winners have been selected!  The winners exhibit will be shown at Paddy’s Coffee starting February 1.  There will also be a special reception for the winners at Paddy’s on Friday, February 3.
Learn How to Make a Movie
Everyone has the dream of selling a million dollar movie script to making the next indie film that is an overnight success. Most people though do not know how to get the idea out of their head and down on paper.  Bryan Nelson has spent the last 12 years since film school learning how to produce a true independent films and now he wants to share this knowledge with you!  From script writing, to production, to selling the final product.  In this class you will learn all of these aspects plus much more.  Class begins on Monday February 20 at 6pm.  For more information please call 675-5329.

Comment on Pedestrian & Bicycle Master Plan
The City of Union City is updating its Pedestrian and Bicycle Master Plan. The plan provides for a citywide system of pedestrian and bicycle facilities and a variety of programs to allow for safe, efficient, and convenient walking and bicycling within the City. 
Free Tax Preparation in Union City
Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program will be providing FREE tax preparation services for qualified individuals and families with household income of less than $50,000 annually.  Tax returns will be prepared by IRS-certified VITA volunteer tax preparers at the Ruggieri Senior Center and at the Union City Library. Belly dance Classes for Adults and Seniors
Belly dance classes for both adults and seniors are now being offered at the Kennedy Center through UCLS. Classes will be offered beginning in February and are taught by instructor Beatriz Ross.
Register for 5K/10KFun Run & Walk
Get yourself prepared for Union City Sports Center’s Anniversary 5K/ 10K Fun Run & Walk! This year's event will take place on March 11th and will include a 5K Stroller and Pet Walking division. UCLS Programs for People with Special Needs
Union City Leisure Services provides award–winning programs for people with special needs of all ages.  Currently UCLS is offering sports through Special Olympics, Friday night activities through UC Clubhouse and lots of other fun activities and special events this fall.

City Smoking and Tobacco Regulations
The City of Union City promotes a healthy living environment and protects non-smokers from exposure to secondhand smoke where they live, work, and play. In November 2010, the City Council restricted smoking in rental complex units, unenclosed common areas, and outdoor dining spaces. Also, Tobacco retailers need to obtain a local Tobacco Retailer License.

Transient Occupancy Tax
Per Chapter 3.18 (Transient Occupancy Tax) of the Union City Municipal Code, each hotel in Union City is required to collect from their guests a transient occupancy tax based on the guest’s daily room rate.  Full program information, including quarterly reporting and remittance forms for Union City hotels, are now available online.
First Quarter Parking Permits Now on Sale
Now available for purchase online is the latest Area S Permit, which is valid through March 31, 2012. An Area S Permit provides unlimited parking in four locations within a short walking distance of the BART station. A permit costs $120 for three months, or only about $2.00 per commute day.

Enforceable Obligation Payments Schedule
As a requirement of AB 1X 26, all redevelopment agencies in California are to prepare an Enforceable Obligation Payments Schedule (EOPS) outlining all outstanding agency debt, their amounts and terms. It must be reviewed and approved by each agency’s governing body and, once approved, posted on the agency/city website.
UCPD Launches Crime Free Program
The Union City Police Department has embarked on a new innovative program to address crime issues on rental properties. The Union City Crime Free Program deals with criminal and civil law issues that apartment owners and managers are being faced with. The program is designed to open channels of communication between property owners/managers and the Union City Police Department, thus forging an alliance.
Coming Soon: Summer Day Camps 2012
Union City Leisure Services Summer Day Camps offer children ages 3-16 an opportunity to enjoy a traditional summer day camp experience which includes a variety of fun activities, arts-n-crafts, games, sports, drama, hiking and nature activities. The first day to register online is April 23. Walk-in registration begins June 4.
Tennis Classes for All Ages

UCLS is now offering NEW tennis classes for people of all ages through new tennis instructor Kirsten Pacis. Energy Upgrade California
Learn about Energy Upgrade California - a new statewide program that saves homeowners money, reduces energy use, and creates jobs by connecting property owners with trained contractors to complete energy efficiency upgrades. We will provide homeowners with information on how to obtain up to $4,000 in rebates on a home energy efficiency upgrade.

Recycling Poster Contest Winners Announced
Congratulations to all who participated in the 2011 Recycling Poster Contest. This year's entries featured some colorful, creative and inspiring works of art. The contest was open to all students who live or go to school in Union City. Their award-winning work will be put on display in the community and help spread the word about the importance of recycling, reducing waste and protecting to the environment.
