Welcome to the Business License webpage. Here you will find everything you need in regards to obtaining a business license, renewing an existing business license and other permits that are required for doing business in Union City.
Tax dollars are a vital part of Union City’s operations. These taxes help pay for many public service programs such as police and public safety, economic development programs, and even transportation services.
Read this IMPORTANT NOTICE before you start any business license application:
All persons doing business (to engage in an activity in the pursuit of gain other than employment) in the City of Union City must complete a business license application and supplemental forms. Certain approvals, permits, or clearances may be required for particular businesses by other City departments and County, State, or Federal agencies before a Business Tax Certificate is issued.
Please fill out all information requested before submission to ensure a speedy approval of your application. There are several different types of license applications that the City uses. The forms needed to apply for a license can be found below:

Commercial Business/New Business Application:- Use this application for a newly created business, or if you have an existing business that has never obtained a license with Union City. |

Renewal- If you have not been issued a renewal notice for an existing Union City business license that will be expiring soon, you may use this form to renew (with payment). |

Renting and Leasing Application: Use this application if you currently own property or a commercial parcel within Union City. There may be instances where two or more business licenses are required depending on your situation. Each license requires a separate application. |

Home Occupation Business Application: Use this application if you are going to be running a business out of your personal place of residence. It is required to have a business license and home occupation permit for conducting business of our your personal residence. |

General and Sub Contractor Application: Use this application if you are a General or Sub Contractor applying for a business license for annual, semi or quarterly use. |

Tobacco Retailer License Application: If you are a Tobacco Retailer, complete this application in addition to your Business License application above. Both a Business License Tax and a Tobacco Retailer’s License Fee will need to be paid at time of submittal. Time is money for your business. Don’t waste time by filling out incorrect application type, or not filling out all of the required information needed to obtain a license. The City will not issue a license without the correct application, all of the required supplemental information, and taxes paid. Please include all payments with applications and call the number below if you have questions on calculating your fees.
