CERT Training Sessions taught by qualified instructors are usually held on Saturdays, from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm at Fire Station #31, 33555 Central Avenune in Union City. Class size is limited. CERT teaches you how to keep yourself and your family from becoming victims in a disaster. CERT focuses on being prepared, staying safe, and helping others until emergency responders can get there.

Class 1: Basic Safety Earthquake awareness. emergency supplies. Home, family workplace preparation. Utility control: when and how to shut it off. Fire extinguisher practice.

Class 2: Disaster Medicine Recognize and treat life threatening injuries. Triage: quick assessment to save lives. Care of minor injuries. Disaster medicine drill.

Class 3: Light Search and Rescue Earthquake effects on buildings. Damage recognition, assessment, and reporting. Search techniques and rescue carries. Search and rescue practice.

Class 4: Advanced Topics Hazardous materials and terrorism awareness. CERT response. Disaster psychology. Incident command system. Practice lifting heavy objects safely.
