50th Anniversary Celebration
2009 marked the 50trh Anniversary of Union City's incorporation. During 2009, ten landmark events were held to celebrate our community's origins, milestones and growth. The year started out with two gala balls on December 31 and continued with events throughout the year: a Lunar New Year Celebration in February; a Parade and Car Show in May; a Gathering the in the Park in July. The year ended with a New Year's Event Closing Gala on December 31, 2009. The HRC is closely involved with organizing many of the events.
Make a Difference Day
Each year in October, National Make a Difference Day is held on the fourth Saturday of the month. Make a Difference Day is the largest national day of helping others, a celebration of neighbors helping neighbors. The HRC works together with the local Lions Club and city staff to promote the event, to help select worthy local projects, and to organize the resources necessary for volunteers participating in the event.
Sister Cities Festival
The Sister Cities Festival is organized by the Union City Friends of Sister Cities, a volunteer group supported by the HRC. It occurs each year in the summer and includes a buffet dinner and multicultural show. It provides residents the opportunity to experience and learn about foreign cultures while never having to leave Union City.
