E-Waste: otherwise known as electronic waste - computers, VCR's, cell phones, printers, fax machines and much more - has become one of the fastest growing environmental concerns. Each year tonnes of electronic equipment often containing lead, cadmium, mercury and arsenic, unnecessarily accumulate in landfills. We all depend on hi-tech conveniences, but what becomes of electronics once they are out of date?

The City of Union City encourages e-waste recycling. Residents can drop off old electronic waste for recycling to reduce the harmful effects that e-waste can have on the environment. Many electronics contain valuable resources, so before you toss out your old computers, batteries or cell phones, help the environment by recycling your e-waste!

An increasing number of companies are establishing programs to help you reuse or recycle old computers and other electronics as part of the process of buying or leasing new models. You may be able to trade in your old computer for credit towards a new one or receive a tax deduction for donating your old computer. Make sure to ask the store salesperson about any special recycling programs and offers.
