The City of Union City offers customers convenient and cost efficient weekly garbage (35-gal cart), recycling (64-gal), and green waste (96-gal) collection services. Union City homeowners pay for curbside collection through assessments which appear on their annual property tax statement.

Collection Day

  • Garbage, Single Stream Recycling and Yard/Food Waste carts are serviced weekly.
  • Set out containers before 6:00 a.m.
  • Place containers in the street gutter, wheels against the curb
  • Carts should be 2 feet apart to allow for pickup by automated trucks
  • Carts should be at least 3 feet from parked vehicles
  • Remove carts from curb within 24 hours after collection
  • Store in a location screened from public view, such as behind a fence.

Remember, Union City's Municipal Code requires trash and recycling containers to be removed from the curb within 24 hours of service and stored in a location that is screened from public view, such as a fenced side yard, garage or other place not visible from the public right-of-way.

No service on New Year's, Thanksgiving and Christmas. If your trash service falls on or after a holiday, service will be delayed one day that week.

Portable basketball hoops
A big problem for drivers of residential collection trucks is access to containers on streets and cu-de-sacs which have portable basketball hoops on the street. Drivers have difficulty servicing homes on these streets and may not be able to empty containers that are placed too close to the hoops.
